Dr. Rohm's Tip of The Week

Say the same thing in a better way!

Have you ever noticed that the most natural thing that you ever do in your life is to see things from your perspective?  I mean, think about it for just a minute.  We don’t wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and have to remind ourselves, “Don’t forget to see things from your [...]

Never trade freedom for security!

I realize that this Tip literally goes around the world and is not exclusive to those of us who live here in the United States.  However, if you will indulge me on this particular Tip, I think it will cross international lines and mean something special to each one of us.   The 4th of July has [...]

There are four ways to keep your attitude up!

Almost all of us have at some point in our lives had circumstances or situations that were unexpected or which caught us off guard.  Those times can be difficult.  Someone once wisely noted that it is not so much what happens to you in life that matters; rather, it is in how you deal with [...]

Every adult needs a child to teach; it’s the way adults learn best!

Not long ago I was having lunch with my grandson, Sam, at Chick-fil-A.  He is only six years old, but he is full of life.  He reminds me a lot of myself when I was a little boy.  I always try to be fully rested and have lots of time on my hands whenever I [...]

Glitch happens!

Most of you know that I am a motivational speaker.  I do a lot of teaching and training all over the world.  I have already had five international trips this year and have several more on the calendar.  I am not saying that to boast; I am simply saying that I travel and speak a [...]

The DISC Model of Human Behavior

The foundation for what we do and how we do it begins with the DISC Model of Human Behavior. Using this model as a basis, we can use a circle split into quadrants to represent the range of normal human behaviors as shown:

From this starting point, we then work to understand both ourselves and other people so that we can interact and work together more effectively and with less stress.

Just a note on cognitive dissonance...

Guy Harris introduced me to cognitive dissonance and I knew that I had to buy the book he recommended entitled Mistakes Were Made (but not by me). I read a section on page 19 that reads as follows, "Neuroscientists have recently shown that these [cognitive] biases in thinking are built into the very way the brain processes information - all brains, regardless of their owners' political affiliation. For example, in a study of people who were being monitored by mangetic resonance imagin (MR… Continue

Self Delusion and Empty Tanks

In Advanced Training we learned that in order to have good and healthy relationships with those around us, we need to be able to take responsibility for our relationships. The recommendation was that we learn three simple phrases.

1. I'm sorry.
2. I'm sorry I misunderstood.
3. I'm sorry I did not make myself clear.

All three of the phrases accepts responsibility. The reason we must be able to say this is because we cannot continue healthy relationships while shifting all responsibility to the… Continue

Corporate Ties and Customer Service

Recently in Las Vegas our business group decided to purchase 5 identical ties as part of a business presentation. We entered store “A”, were promptly greeted and assisted in the selection of the ties. The salesperson was asked, “Is there a discount if we buy 5 ties from you? “. The young man responded, “I can’t do anything like that.” One of our group informed him that a store upstairs had offered a 30% discount on a multiple tie purchase. Unphased our employee basically quit serving us at that… Continue
